Serious Earning Potential
Commercial work can be some of the best-paid work available to actors. Alongside a shoot fee, featured performers can receive substantial usage or buyout payments depending on where, how and for how long a campaign runs. Equity currently recommends a minimum Basic Studio Fee of £350, while one year of UK internet usage on one website is calculated at 400% of the BSF. Major campaigns can go considerably further. If a campaign is renewed or its usage extended, actors can also receive further payments, meaning a single commercial can continue earning well beyond the original booking.

A £50 Billion Industry
Commercials are not a sideline to the screen industry. UK advertising investment reached £46.7 billion in 2025 and is forecast to pass £50 billion in 2026. With brands producing content for television, streaming, social media, cinema and digital campaigns, that investment creates a constant demand for performers and new faces. Commercials can account for around 75% of the casting breakdowns we see, meaning roughly three out of every four current opportunities are commercial. Pass those opportunities by, and you could be ignoring three quarters of the work currently available to you.

More Chances To Work
Commercial casting happens year-round, across thousands of brands, products and campaigns. One job may require a single shoot day, another a week overseas, and another may lead to repeat campaigns. For actors, commercials create another major source of auditions, bookings and paid time in front of the camera. Regular commercial auditions also keep you self-taping, making choices and working to a brief, so when that major film or television audition lands, you are already sharp, practiced and ready.

Experience That Counts
A commercial set is still a professional set. Actors work with directors, crews, clients and production teams, often under tight schedules and with very specific performance requirements. Every booking gives you more experience taking direction, working to camera and delivering when the pressure is on. Fast-paced shoots, early calls, international travel and changing direction on set all build the discipline and experience that prepare you for larger film and television productions.

Get Seen. Get Remembered
A strong commercial can put an actor in front of millions of people and associate them with some of the world's biggest brands. It can add recognisable work to your credits, build relationships with casting directors and production teams, and put you back in the room when the next brief lands. Many leading casting directors work across commercials, television and feature films, making commercial auditions another opportunity to get in the room, show them what you can do and, importantly, become someone they remember.
